Artist Sabine Cibert was born in 1956 and divides her time between Lyon and the French Alps, as a source for inspiration, shaping her view of landscapes and nature.

Parallel to her career as an architect in city planning, she taught herself to work with textiles for 40 years. Even today, her work on urban networks informs her art.
Sabine Cibert crafts her works entirely by hand, applying the golden ratio to piece together textile squares. She works slowly, in an almost meditative state. Her ensuing, original works feel at once familiar, well-ordered, fine-tuned. Working in series, she develops varying formats that all explore similar colour schemes, or obey similar guiding principles.
She started out making giant compositions in the manner of ancient tapestries and historic paintings, tapping into tradition, using techniques recalling those of the Amish women. 

Boasting a seminal quality in terms of material, weave and chromatics, textiles are for Sabine an opportunity to explore what she finds fascinating: colour. Clearly reprising abstract art from the latter half of the 20th century, she makes vivid use of colour to explore contemporary issues related to climate disruption. 

In the past five years, Sabine Cibert has also reduced surface area to develop increasingly intimate compositions, while maintaining the same presence. Major themes from her initial, immense works contract into vibrations. 

Sabine Cibert is represented by the Showroom Galerie 7 in Lyon and often participates in group exhibitions in France, as well as in mediation projects for a diverse audience.

Since 2004, her work has featured in nine international exhibitions.
