Technique: A hand-sewn textile panel: twelve blocks sewn with a relief effect and thirteen smoothly assembled blocks. The surface has been hand-quilted to canvas, through a silk core.

Nine free-standing works on tracing paper secured on nails using magnets.

Description: The Magma and Archetype installation shows two different stages in the design of a textile work. Tapping into the same chromatic range as the rest of the Magma series, the Magma and Archetype installation with its red and gentian curves snaking across navy blues and slate greys drew inspiration from tablets carved with calligraphy in a Korean temple.

The works on tracing paper provide a photographic record of that fleeting moment when fabrics and colours are picked. Pinned temporarily to canvas, the free-standing rectangles were used to visualise and adapt the design as a whole.

The contrast between the textile and tracing paper panels provide yet deeper insights into the thought processes which spurred the work.
