Description: as the most recent addition to the Thaw series, Sikuliaq1 further explores white and its variations. Here perhaps more than in previous works, textiles afford multiple variations in colour.
The colourful composition is pure sensation, grey-blue greens work together to evoke the translucent white surface of frozen water. Starting with a trickle of cooling liquid, checked by the temperature or resisting the onslaught of wind, the rich colour range of the textiles explores all the different nuances of the cold that stilled the water.
Sikuliaq1 also experiments with a new way of displaying the textile work, somewhere between a flat surface and projection in space.
As an all-new mobile object operating like an ancient retable in a cathedral, it moves through space to its own pace. No longer tied to liturgy, rather the inexorable instants of passing time that never turns back, inviting onlookers to meditate the vanishing polar habitat.
